For ten years I photographed a variety of conflicts around the world and in 2007 published some of that work in a book entitled Small Arms: Children of Conflict along with an exhibition by the same name at The Chazen Museum of Art, Madison, WI.

My most recent project dealing with the impact of climate change is entitled Iceland’s Vanishing Beauty. It’s a five year ongoing project which documents the rapidly changing beauty in Iceland.   With video shot from drones and traditional digital photography. The work displays the rapidly changing landscape of southeast Iceland, including its ice caves, glacial tongues, and other scenery.

My photographic awards include Best Picture Story from UPI and Best Sunday Magazine Picture Story from The Sunday Magazine Editors Association.  While living in New York I worked for Andy Warhol and was the house photographer of The Waldorf Astoria.  I have also produced, shot and edited video for television commercials and done still photography for motion pictures.   Along with conventional digital imaging. .I’ve been a licensed drone operator and instructor for over 6 years and taught photography and video with drones at the University of Wisconsin and Peninsula School for the Arts.

My foreign assignments include Afghanistan, Belize, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Honduras,  Iceland, Ireland, Kenya, Lebanon, Mexico, Nicaragua, Northern Ireland, Pakistan, Peru and Taiwan.  For more information:  info@michaelkienitz.com (608) 332-3200
